Zanele Muholi — Kanye Nawe

Entry is free, which is the first fact the show insists on. Kanye Nawe fills the whole of Silo 5 at the V&A Waterfront through September 10: a dense hang of Faces and Phases, work from Only Half the Picture, Being, Mo(u)rning, LiZa and ZaVa, new Somnyama Ngonyama self-portraits, and three bronzes that put a Black queer body into the material usually reserved for generals. The portrait project started in 2006 with Busi Sigasa, photographed at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, and now runs past 500 participants. Muholi took the Hasselblad Award this year and could have opened anywhere. The work came home and priced admission at nothing.
