Devon Turnbull — HiFi Pursuit Listening Room Dream No. 3

For eight months a handmade horn system stood in the Carnegie mansion on East 91st Street and did the thing museums rarely permit, which is ask people to sit down and hear a record end to end. The room closed August 16 after opening in December 2025, the third in a series that began at Lisson Gallery in 2022 and passed through London and SFMOMA. Turnbull builds these properly: the horns are his, the valve amplifiers are his, and the engineering descends directly from Jamaican sound system practice. The attention has concentrated on the room rather than on the tradition standing behind it, and the rooms keep landing in museums, hotel lobbies and Supreme stores. Come back when one of them strings up on a corner and charges nobody.
