STARE — Bhavya Ramesh × NorBlack NorWhite

STARE — Bhavya Ramesh × NorBlack NorWhite
Thirteen pieces in silver and gold, built out of the nazar battu, the lemon-and-chilli charm that hangs outside Indian homes against the evil eye. Eyes, snakes, fangs, moons, ghungroos. The film, directed by Bijoy Shetty in Kerala with Tillotama Shome and Karthika Nair, is folk horror rather than a wedding. Indian jewelry advertising has run the same script for thirty years, and it casts the woman as the person the jewelry is given to. This one casts her as the one doing the looking.
