Niyi Fagbemi
Ninety-nine percent of what he shoots is self-funded and he says it in interviews without softening it. Nobody commissioned the 2023 Ojude Oba film. It cleared a hundred million views across platforms and turned an Ijebu-Ode festival into a fixture with an international attendance problem. He trained as a mechanical engineer at Covenant, borrowed his uncle's camera in third year, and now shoots the Durbar in Kano, Juju Rock in Niger State, Ibadan's brown roofs. Naija In Motion, his first solo exhibition, opened in Lagos last October, and every print was hung in its natural color with no manipulation, which is a position rather than a preference. He also names the limits out loud: funding first, then security, and the places he will not travel to because of it.
