A £9 cotton hand towel and a £799 bouclé ottoman bed, same signature, same shop. Yinka Ilori's forty-piece collection for Dunelm landed on July 8 across furniture, bedding, lighting, rugs and soft furnishings: the 'Sweet Flows' swivel chair at £299, the 'Bell' dimmable lamp at £65, the 'Half-Log' sideboard at £599 in oak on chrome legs. The research underneath it is real. Dunelm began as a market stall in Leicester, and the florals across the range are drawn from national flowers of India, Pakistan and elsewhere, tracing the Asian, African and Caribbean communities who built the city's textile trade last century. The campaign was shot with actual Dunelm staff. What thins is the translation: printed jacquard at chain-store volume flattens a practice that normally works in three dimensions and outdoors. The strongest object is the quietest one, the handmade 'Kaleidoscope' rug in 100 per cent wool from £135. Check in a year whether any of it is still stocked.
