Every piece in this line carries a photograph, and that is the whole design brief. Prolific launched on July 27 through The Marathon Clothing, the company Nipsey Hussle founded, and it is the first collection built entirely from his archive: heavyweight tees, long sleeves, hoodies, crewnecks, zip-ups, hats, with handwritten graphics and his own typography. The 'All Summer' shirt prints lyrics from 'Who Detached Us,' a 2011 record. Earlier Marathon drops were streetwear with a logo attached; this is a wardrobe assembled as documentation, which is a harder object for an estate to get right than a memorial tee. It arrives three weeks before the album of the same name, fifteen tracks with Bino Rideaux, digital on August 14 with vinyl and cassette to follow. Seven years after Crenshaw, the ownership argument is still the clearest one anybody in rap has made.
