Widline Cadet — Seremoni Disparisyon

Widline Cadet — Seremoni Disparisyon
On now at the Milwaukee Art Museum through Aug 9 — her first US museum solo, and the first full hang of a nearly decade-long project. Cadet started photographing her extended family because the ancestral images simply did not exist. When access to Haiti narrowed, she turned the camera on herself and the people within reach and called the result a living archive. Doubling, repetition, staged intimacy, prints installed in ways that refuse to behave like documents. The archive she was told wasn't there, she built — then finished it, then waited.
