The Stolen Dove — Jon Rubin

Khalil Bendib's 1994 bronze of Alex Odeh — Palestinian-American poet, ADC organizer, assassinated by pipe bomb in Santa Ana in 1985, case still officially unsolved — has been vandalized for thirty years. Last December Jon Rubin removed the dove again, with the family's blessing, turning the vandalism into method. The dove now travels: dinners, a Passover seder, a Hollywood house gallery, next the Bay Area and Pittsburgh. Every host keeps a replica. A flock instead of a plinth. It returns to the statue in fall 2027 carrying every room it sat in.
