The Paper Log: Shell and Core
Tokyo, Thursday, Gallery 3 at 21_21 Design Sight in Akasaka, free, through September 13. The object is a compressed roll of pleated paper eighty centimeters tall, produced as packing waste by Issey Miyake's garment pleating. Ensamble Studio peels it into sculpture; Satoshi Kondo's team soaks it in wax and glue and builds stools. Cut one open and the cross-section rings like a tree.
