Fifty-two years. Screenings every Wednesday at the Newark Museum of Art, free, running to August 5. The longest-running Black film festival in the country has been doing the work since 1974 with a committee of volunteers and museum staff picking the slate, and it still travels almost entirely by word of mouth in Essex County. That is the tell. Institutions this old usually calcify or get bought; this one just kept programming. Free admission is not a marketing choice here — it is the thesis.
