La Maison du Vent — Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu

An eighty-year-old woman forms a bond with a young neighbour, and a whole household rearranges around it. That is the premise of Cameroonian director Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu's La Maison du Vent, which plays Orizzonti at the 83rd Venice film festival, September 2 to 12. Orizzonti is the section for debuts and new aesthetic trends, which in practice is where the discoveries sit while the press pack works the Golden Lion titles. The rest of the African selection sits outside the main competition too: Abderrahmane Sissako is in Venice Immersive with Artou, a Mauritanian family carrying out a father's wish to be buried beside his own, and Flora Gomes's 1991 Udju Azul di Yonta screens in Venice Classics.
