Fadekemi Ogunsanya — We Are Not Lying, Your Language is Not Enough

A quilt built as a sentence you have to learn to read. Ogunsanya draws freehand in cassava starch with a feather quill — <span class="a">Adire Eleko</span>, a Yoruba technique going extinct as everyone else switches to stencils — sends the cloth to Kano's centuries-old Kofar Mata indigo pits, then beads the lines back by hand. The border speaks Yoruba proverbs. Cloth as archive, made to outlast the people erasing the method. Loewe shortlisted it; almost no one outside craft clocked it.
