Eleven writers painted a wall at 412 North 2nd Street in Philadelphia and used it to tell their own history. Construction of Style, put together by Phil Asbury for Mural Arts, carries work designed by Dawud Anyabwile of BrothaMan Comics, Sew SM, Distort BAMC, Busta, Rew, Imse, Saoka, Diana Gonzalez, Efrain Herrera and Kien Nguyen, with a final panel honoring Cornbread, Cool Earl, Tity, Sub, Cone ICP and Lewis. Amina Tawasil, the Columbia anthropologist whose fieldwork follows writers across Philadelphia, New York and urban New Jersey, recorded the audio tour. A discipline that has spent sixty years being explained by outsiders here supplies the wall and the commentary both. Free, outdoors, still going up, parking on Willow.
