Audiotool 3.0 + NEXUS

Sixteen years in a browser tab — Flash in 2010, HTML5 in 2017, and on Jul 8 a full rewrite. Real-time multiplayer production, any device, free. The part that matters is NEXUS: an open-source SDK so anyone can build instruments, effects, visualisers and hardware bridges into the DAW instead of waiting on a vendor’s plugin format. Splice, Ujam and Fraunhofer signed on; a hackathon with BBC R&D runs to Aug 23. It cuts both ways — an open SDK is worth nothing until developers actually show up, and the graveyard of open plugin platforms is well populated. But if a generation learns to make records in a tab, the tab is the studio.
