Atcha Atcha — Mamadou Dia

Atcha Atcha — Mamadou Dia
Locarno opened today and the film worth the trip screens Sunday. Atcha Atcha is Mamadou Dia's first documentary, shot at the École des Sables in Senegal, where dancers from across the continent take a final year of training under Germaine Acogny. It premieres August 9 in Fuori Concorso and is eligible for the Pardo for Change. Dia took the Pardo d'Oro in Cineasti del Presente here in 2019 with Baamum Nafi; Demba went to the Berlinale in 2024; he joined the Academy in 2025. Maayo in Dakar and Les Films du Bilboquet in Paris produced it. Wawkumba Film, run by Oumou Diégane Niang, carries it across the continent, as it did the two features before. A body is an archive somebody has to teach.
