Lena Jameson takes over her dead father's rum-running route in 1923 Martha's Vineyard and ends up in gangland Boston, then Harlem at the start of its Renaissance — Lattimore's second novel naming a Black seafaring community the genre usually skips. Publishers Weekly and a starred Booklist review landed two weeks ahead of the July 28 pub date. The heat is already outrunning the release — the good kind of early.
