Amoako Boafo — It Doesn't Have to Always Make Sense

Amoako Boafo — It Doesn't Have to Always Make Sense
First solo show in Italy, staged inside a 16th-century Venetian palazzo timed to the Biennale — and instead of treating the room as a backdrop, Boafo makes new work that argues directly with the portrait tradition hanging on those same walls. The finger-paint technique is still the signature, but the thesis has sharpened: Black diasporic subjects installed in the exact architecture that used to define whose face counted as art. Heat and craft are pointed the same direction here — the room caught up to what Accra already knew.
