The AI Label — Eight Bodies, One Suggestion

The AI Label — Eight Bodies, One Suggestion
On July 10 eight organizations — the RIAA, IFPI, the Recording Academy, SAG-AFTRA, A2IM, WIN, IMPALA and the Human Artistry Campaign — proposed two streaming tags, AI-GENERATED and AI-ASSISTED, modelled on the explicit-content marker. Five days later TIDAL stopped paying royalties on tracks it reads as fully synthetic. One of those is a rule. The other is a suggestion, written that way on purpose: platforms opt in. So the same file can earn full royalties on one service, get demoted on the second and disappear from the third without a note changing. Note what it isn't: a floor. The independent artist this is meant to protect still has no answer on Spotify, and this week a man was due in a New York court over eight million dollars of streaming fraud that ran seven years before anyone stopped it. The disclosure conversation is loud and it is correct. The enforcement is a press release.
