The mural comes down on Sunday. Pjota painted it directly onto the walls of the South London Gallery's Main Gallery, and when Encantados closes on August 23 it gets covered over: five months up, free, no booking, gone. He describes the method as sampling and means it literally. He was a graffiti writer in São José do Rio Preto before he was a painter, and he builds canvases the way a producer builds a beat — loop a piece of art history, drop something new over it. A speaker stack with reggae written across it. A three-headed animal working a trumpet, a horn and a drum at once. The gallery screened Wild Style in July alongside the show, which is how you know they read it right. Peckham, until Sunday.
