Fade — Studio Museum in Harlem

Fade — Studio Museum in Harlem
144 West 125th Street, fourth-floor gallery, through September 6. Seventeen artists of African and Afro-Latinx descent, born between 1983 and 2000, and most of them working outside New York: New Orleans, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Chicago. Fade is the sixth of the Studio Museum's “F” shows, a run that opened with Freestyle in 2001 and has been the most reliable early indicator in American art since. Five co-curators assembled it, which is why it carries no single house style. The title does three jobs at once: a cinematic transition, a haircut, a jumper taken going backwards. A month left on it.
