Vanessa Lee, who already runs Smoke Soul Kitchen, has filed to open Chapter 3 there: a bookstore and cafe in a district that has spent years with the Linda Brooks-Burton Library as its only dependable source of books. Lee went to school in the Fillmore, a five-minute walk from Marcus Books, and that lineage is not decoration. Chapter 3 is one of nine Bayview storefronts funded this year through the city's Storefront Opportunity Grants, arriving just after a Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center and Harvard Business School study of the Third Street corridor recommended precisely this.
