BLUEBOY — Finn Askew

BLUEBOY — Finn Askew
BLUEBOY is six songs in seventeen minutes and it knows what it is: pastel, close-miked, woozy, nearer to Mk.gee and Dijon than to anything on daytime radio. Askew is from Wellington in Somerset and played the Jazz Cafe in Camden on July 31. The distance from the 50 is worth stating plainly: this is bedroom alt-pop with an R&B finish, made a long way from the root the canon runs on. What the room has is a cosign stack, SZA, Kehlani, Bieber, attached to a run of singles and one seventeen-minute tape. He told Wonderland he wants a darker second tape before the year is out. That is the record that settles it.
