A Life in Art: Through the Eye of Dr. Leslie King Hammond

A Life in Art: Through the Eye of Dr. Leslie King Hammond
BlackStar turned fifteen this August, Aug 6 to 9 in Philadelphia, 91 films deep, and the one that outlasts the festival week is a portrait, not a premiere. A Life in Art: Through the Eye of Dr. Leslie King Hammond, directed by Ben Baker-Lee and her son Rassaan Hammond, follows the art historian who mentored Amy Sherald through the Michelle Obama portrait commission and has spent five decades teaching artists of color how to defend their own work. The lineage runs both directions here: a son documenting the woman who taught a generation how to look. No streaming date yet. Catch it at a festival first.
